The candidate will be a member of the Chemical Genomics Group in Discovery Biology developing a range of assay systems to screen new crop protection compounds. Applicants should have post-doctoral and industrial experience constructing suitable vectors that can be introduced into a variety of host expression systems to generate proteins of interest for detailed functional and biophysical analysis. Many of these proteins would be associated with membrane components. The candidate should also have experience in the bioinformatic analysis of genome and transcript sequences.
Demonstrated skills in the following areas are therefore required:
+ Develop technologies for efficient production of functional recombinant proteins and enzymes, especially insect-based expression systems
+ Establish binding and functional assays capable of reporting on the efficacy of synthetic small molecule effectors
+ Develop molecular analysis tools to understand the mechanisms of new small molecules, including metabolite profiling and proteomics
+ Evaluate and integrate novel advanced analysis technologies using cellular and phenotypic systems, including directed evolution
+ Collaborate both internally and externally to develop new capabilities
+ The successful candidate will be a proven problem solver collaborating across different functions and sharing their expertise in project teams composed of chemists and biologists with a range of different technical expertise and skills.
+ PhD in biological sciences, specializing in biochemistry
+ At least 5 years relevant postdoctoral research and laboratory experience
+ Demonstrated success in recombinant protein production and purification
+ Experience in assay development, particularly membrane associated proteins
+ Broad practical knowledge of new technologies for binding site mapping
+ Experience in directed evolution and/or complementary in silico optimization of protein sequence for function and stability
+ Demonstrated strong technical leadership and abilities in research projects
+ Ability to interact positively and execute in a cross-functional research environment
+ Ability to adapt to and effectively implement new research strategies
