This position helps guide the enterprise through technology transformation and optimization initiatives. He / she focuses on understanding and applying existing, new and emerging technologies to transform and optimize business and operating models. This person’s emphasis is to help the organization plan, design, innovate, orchestrate, facilitate, navigate and operationalize the digital enterprise. He / she responds to disruptive forces by helping business leaders facilitate the decision-making process and providing actionable recommendations on initiatives and policies to help the organization drive targeted business outcomes.

This position is responsible for leading and managing the evolution of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) practice (solution, technical, information, business) including the organizational design, management and day-to-day running of the EA practice. He / she is responsible for defining the advisory process, EA process, and architecture review and governance, and for leading the integration of those processes with related business and IT functions and processes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Formulate Strategy and Guide Execution

+ Understands the business needs and challenges and is responsible for effectively guiding technology investment decisions.

+ Cloud strategy – Collaborate with key stakeholders, such as Infrastructure & Information Security to create and evaluate a Cloud strategy for the enterprise.

+ Facilitates business and IT alignment through collaboration enabling us to drive the organization’s business strategies and balancing innovation and growth.

+ Formulates, translates, advocates, supports and executes technology strategy to achieve Berkley’s targeted business outcomes.

+ Leads the analysis of business and operating models, market trends and the technology industry to determine their potential impact on Berkley’s business strategy, direction and architecture.

Facilitate Innovation

+ Scans the world for major disruptive technology and nontechnology trends (trendspotting) that affect business. Provides practical advice and best practices to overcome these challenges and successfully deliver the expected business outcomes.

+ Participates in running technology experiments to create new products and services and integrate the best of these into the business strategy and operations of Berkley.

Build and Maintain Relationships

+ Partners with business leaders and organizational stakeholders who seek actionable recommendations to make investment decisions about technology.

+ Builds the EA practice to become an internal resource, offering services and skills to support the development and execution of business strategy.

+ Recruits and develops the skills and competencies of the EA team; in particular, building the business and behavioral competencies needed to support our technology strategy.

+ Leads and facilitates interaction with business leaders, product managers and product owners in a conversation over the risks and implications of a technology decision to the business unit and greater enterprise.

Orchestrate the Delivery of Business Outcomes

+ Works with business leaders to identify key drivers and targeted business outcomes to inform technology decision and strategy.

+ Develops diagnostic and actionable deliverables that help business guide technology investment decisions in support of executing business strategy.

+ Leads analysis of the business’ future-state capabilities and future (and current) IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement to drive the business forward.

+ Identifies organizational requirements for the resources, structures and cultural changes necessary to support the enterprise architecture.

+ Ensures the EA organizational design process leads to a more efficient and effective business and IT operating model, significantly improved results (profitability, customer service, internal operations), and technology resources who are empowered and committed to the integration of business and IT.

+ Ensure the core EA team works closely with extended architecture team members across the organization.

+ Helps the enterprise find the right balance between enterprise risk and agility. Steps up and communicates key technology recommendations to business and IT leaders to get buy-in.

Plan and Manage the IT Portfolio

+ Presents gap analyses and/or IT investment roadmaps that reflect the status of the existing IT landscape, namely, its ability to contribute to future-state business capabilities.

+ Leads analysis of the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.

+ Develops and applies standards and minimal viable architectures informed by the business strategy.

+ Facilitates a collaborative relationship across product owners and agile development teams.

+ Collaborates with agile teams to ensure consistency with the enterprise architecture, as well as to leverage shared technologies, tools and processes that affect speed to value and time to market.

+ Collaborates with infrastructure and project teams to ensure consistency with the enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.

+ Oversees the documentation of all architecture design and analysis work.

Minimum Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience, MBA or Masters in Computer Science preferred.

+ Ten or more years of business experience in strategic and operations planning and/or business analysis.

+ Ten or more years driving technology strategy in a leadership role.

+ Ten or more years of experience in at least three disciplines, such as business, information, solution or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations in a multitier environment.

+ Must have a strong background leading cloud strategy development and implementation.

+ Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.

+ Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.

+ Exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.

+ Excellent analytical and technical skills.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

+ Excellent planning and organizational skills.

+ Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture.

+ Knowledge of business engineering principles and processes.

+ Familiarity with basic graphical modeling approaches, tools and mode
