A-Del is currently looking for a Superintendent to oversee our Asphalt Paving operations. The right candidate's primary responsibility is to manage all functions of the job as it relates to asphalt paving while maintaining company construction and safety standards..

Job Duties

Milling

· Reviews plans at the start of operations on a project and continues to review periodically until completion.

· Reviews the daily records of all quantities in square yard inches, square yards or cubic yards, depending on the needs of the project.

· Daily records the complete record of millings used, including location where they were hauled, and uploads weekly for review by Project Manager and Operations.

· Coordinates with Superintendent MOT the daily lane closures as needed.

· Coordinates the dump location for millings pending worksite location.

Paving

· Attends pre-paving meetings with Owner and Project Foreman (if available).

· Calculates initial take-off with plans.

· Completes ordering for hot mix with plant, including initial ship time and release information to plant.

· Oversees QA/QC testing.

· Tracks AC cost adjustments.

· Records daily tonnage to be reviewed weekly with Project Managers

· Reports over/under runs to Project Manager and Operations.

· Prepares subgrade layout. Verifies subgrade is correct and is proof rolled before paving.

· Reviews and corrects any differential in yields between plan and installation.

· Coordinates with Superintendent MOT the daily lane closures as needed.

Concrete (As pertaining to Pavement Rehabilitations)

· Calculates initial take-off plans.

· Reviews all types of curb, pedestrian connections, sidewalk thickness and additional reinforcement requirements needed for projects. Prepares subgrade layout and schedule with survey for layout and subgrade of curb. Communicates with project foreman the best plan of action for completing each task.

· Identifies grading deviations between plans and field.

· Daily records quantities in linear feet, square feet, square yards or cubic yards of concrete in place on each ongoing project.

· Reviews and corrects any differential in yields between plan and installation.

· Coordinates with Superintendent MOT the daily lane closures as needed.

Responsibilities

· Acts as leader to field staff and an unbiased liaison between field operations and management.

· Coordinates with hot mix plants for product availability.

· Designates worker responsibilities and schedules workers, delivery of equipment and materials.

· Provides expert insight and solutions to unique problems and challenges related to construction activities and cost control.

· Assists in managing costs and cost projections.

· Audits quantities for the duration of projects, including schedule impacts and site and scope variations.

· Works with Project Foreman to oversee daily construction activities at work site and ensures all time is being recorded accurately and manpower and equipment requirements are met.

· Maintains daily log of activities and look-ahead schedules to ensure all work is being completed to job specifications and according to contract terms, plans and specifications.

· Ensures all project crews are securing equipment and project sites daily for ongoing projects.

· Reviews the Owner’s quantity daily records for unit cost projects.

· Weekly reports necessary to ensure routine maintenance of equipment.

· Ensures extra work job tickets are submitted to the Project Manager within one week from date on ticket.

· Performs other assignments as needed.

Qualifications

· BA/BS degree desired or minimum of 5 years as a Superintendent or Foreman.

· Asphalt Paving knowledge required.

· OSHA 30 required or must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Thorough knowledge of construction technology, equipment, methods, negotiations, engineering, cost controls, schedules and safety required.

· Knowledge of concrete placements and finishing processes.

· Competent to use Microsoft Office suite: Word‚ Excel‚ HCSS Heavy Job, Bluebeam and Microsoft Project.

· Communication requires negotiation and explanation to gain acceptance of ideas and proposed actions.

· Provides analytical knowledge to resolve issues and interpret or summarize information.

· Globally communicates and organizes with team leaders and subordinates‚ coordinates and executes on all project deliverables‚ and sets and maintains the highest level of professionalism to represent the stellar reputation of the company and its standards.

· The job offers some flexibility for determining how to organize work activities which are periodically reviewed by Operations.

· Ability to make decisions on safe/unsafe working conditions and within company guidelines and standards.

Working Conditions

· Involves work for heavy civil construction company where duties can potentially be performed in both indoor/outdoor/daytime/nighttime working conditions. Employee can be exposed to equipment/vehicle hazards, heights/subsurface levels, dust/fumes, chemicals, confined spaces, traffic hazards, loud noise levels and outside weather conditions related to Mid-Atlantic region.

· Fit for duty including physical requirements of standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, verbally communicating, hearing, sitting and occasionally lifting/moving approximately 50 pounds.

· Must be able to travel to the jobsite(s) assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $85,424.00 per year
