What You'll Do
This attorney will be responsible for handling various legal matters primarily in support of Discover's Fair and Responsible Banking program and issue management. Successful candidates will have experience advising on consumer financial services laws and regulations including fair lending.
Provides advice, direction and support to internal business clients, including risk, compliance, risk and operations, governance, government relations, and/or provides legal advice, as applicable to role, on new initiatives, business processes, contract review and analysis, training, corrective actions, compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures, litigation risk and issues raised in governance committees.
How You'll Do It
Advise business and compliance partners on fair and responsible banking matters including ECOA, FHA, UDAAP, and state fair banking laws (including laws and guidance related to consumers with limited English proficiency). This includes review and analysis of factors used in credit risk and fraud models/strategies, as well as the use of machine learning and alternative data.
Advise on fair banking issues associated with new initiatives, business processes, training, and, policies and procedures.
Support issue management and complaint programs
Analyze new and amended regulations and laws and communicate them to business and compliance partners.
Support supervisory examinations.
Qualifications You'll Need
6+ years of experience in Consumer financial services (including credit card, mortgage, student loans, collections and deposit products) or related
Active law license in good standing
Bonus Points If You Have
3+ years of experience advising on consumer financial laws and regulations, including but not limited to, ECOA, FHA, and UDAAP (familiarity with FCRA also preferred).
Strong oral and written analytic and communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and foster relationships at all levels.
