The successful candidate will have a strong academic and practical background in surface science and colloid science, and will be able to apply that knowledge in the execution ofinnovative research and development programs. The research will be directed toward the development of novel aqueous systems of hydrophobic materials (emulsions and dispersions) for applications in papermaking systems, especially sizing of paper. Support for Solenis manufacturing processes of sizing products as well as customer applications and problem-solving will be expected.
Additionally, consideration will be given to candidates who have 1-3 years ofexperience in the pulp and paper industry, especially in new chemical product development.
Ability to apply fundamental science to successfully develop new products and application technology in complex aqueous pulp and paper systems.
Must be results-oriented, focused on achieving goals and objectives.
Excellent analytical skills.
Coaching and mentoring 1-2 technical assistants.
Strong technical communication skills - verbal and written.
Strong interpersonal skills - influencing and leading people inside and outside of R&D.
Expertise in experimental design and statistical data analysis.
Ph.D. preferred with surface and colloid chemistry concentration
Masters Degree with relevant experience would be considered
1-3 years industrial research experience in surface/colloid science applications in aqueous systems, e.g. - pulp and paper, coatings, pigments, paints, wastewater treatment
Ability to apply fundamental science to successfully develop new products and application technology in complex aqueous pulp and paper systems
