Attention NJ Applicants : In April 2020, our Company announced plans to consolidate our New Jersey campuses into a single New Jersey headquarters location in Rahway, NJ by 2023. Therefore, the NJ work location for this role will be temporarily based and the exact timing of the departmental move to Rahway, NJ will be communicated at a future date.

The Associate Director, Business Engagement-Health Equity will be responsible for developing and communicating data-driven and actionable insights that drive greater customer and market understanding to inform brand, customer and organizational strategy and execution choices. This role will help build our Health Equity capabilities in HHIAD, and enable the business to identify and act upon key opportunity areas to ensure our Company’s scientific advancements better reach all underserved and under-resourced populations. This role will identify and prioritize key business insights needs, and harness our data assets and capabilities to develop and execute plans to address those needs.

The individual in this role will act as a “first” point of contact for our commercial teams and will quarterback cross-functional data and analytics teams for key engagements, to help scope, design and deliver well-defined projects and insights.

The preferred candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, consultative mindset, understanding of healthcare / pharmaceutical data and technology and ability to identify and use new data sources and analytics solutions to inform commercial strategies. They will have demonstrated consistently strong leadership skills, an ability to work both independently and with a team. They will empower a growth mindset and inspire a culture of continuous learning. This role will require interfacing and collaborating with many teams so strong communication skills are a must.

Primary Tasks :

+ Take full ownership of understanding the business opportunity, information needs and stakeholders’ priorities to help develop research, data and analytical solutions that support and anticipate business objectives, in collaboration with the broader commercial insight teams.

+ Clearly define the business question or opportunity; inform choice of appropriate analytical techniques/methodologies and solutions; develop working knowledge of all relevant data and insights sources, strengths, and weaknesses to inform choices to best answer business questions.

+ Consider alternatives, propose appropriate methods/approaches, apply best practices, and proactively consider and/or develop new techniques and innovations to meet objectives.

+ Integrate insights into a compelling story to guide the business decision at hand.

+ Enhance the reliability, depth and usability of our health equity data to evolve our capabilities and impact.

+ Establish and manage close relationships with stakeholders both internal and external.

+ Lead and inspire agile working teams and cross-functional stakeholder groups to meet business needs.

+ Communicate and collaborate effectively with multiple extended team members – market research, forecasting, data science, data strategy, data visualization, marketing, clinical team, etc.

+ Travel: (<10%).


+ Undergraduate degree in related discipline required.

+ MBA or Master’s degree preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

+ Minimum of 5+ years of relevant delivery of complex analytical projects in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry using large patient or physician databases; facility with understanding and appropriately leveraging healthcare data and insights to inform business decisions.

+ Robust understanding of the commercial value chain in pharmaceuticals.

+ Working knowledge of and interest in the external healthcare environment, factors impacting health disparities, Social Determinants of Health.

+ Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to think strategically and objectively.

+ Ability to understand business process and break down business questions into specific, tangible hypotheses and requirements to guide analysis.

+ Self-motivated, proactive, ability to work independently and thrive in an ambiguous environment/white space.

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

+ Solid project management and organizational skills; ability to navigate a complex matrix environment and organize/prioritize work and competing priorities effectively.

+ Ability to motivate without authority, collaborate and lead diverse groups of work colleagues.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

+ Professional knowledge in applied data science and analytics, familiarity with visualization, data story telling.

+ Vaccines and/or Oncology therapeutic area experience.
