Job Summary (Primary function)
The Research Scientist, Pharmacology executes scientific experiments for oncology drug discovery programs. The role works in a highly interactive organization and is part of oncology drug discovery project teams with representatives from other departments in the organization. The position is responsible for in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro pharmacological evaluation of compounds using model systems, and implements experiments to explore/validate novel targets. A successful candidate will be able to contribute to experimental design and to conduct in vivo experiments in appropriate syngeneic, xenograft, PDX and humanized models.
Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)
Optimize appropriate models/assays that evaluate the effectiveness of designated preclinical compounds and guide chemistry SAR (structure-activity relationship) development.
Conduct in vivo experiments, including animal handling, dosing, and sample collection.
Perform ex vivo assessments of drug activity
Data analysis, excellent notebook keeping, and familiarity with data retrieval and input from a database.
Assist in communicating scientific data to project team members.
Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)
BS or MS degree (or equivalent) in Biology/Pharmacology with 5+ years drug discovery experience.
Working knowledge of technologies commonly used to evaluate small molecule inhibitors in vitro or in vivo.
Extensive experience working with common laboratory animals, including small molecule drug administration.
Excellent computer and data analysis skills.
Must be able to perform in a fast paced environment and deliver high quality data in a timely manner.
Must have good communication skills, and work productively in teams as well as independently.
