The Analytics Solutions Head of Engineering will be leading a new engineering organization to develop the next-generation of our internal Analytics Solutions product suite, helping stakeholders make data-driven decisions to optimally deliver our treatments to physicians and patients. As part of Merck’s Human Health Insights, Analytics and Data division, the candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders and data science teams to understand needs and productize solutions. The candidate will be building a team of engineering teams, leading translation of ideas into highly available and performant solutions using AWS cloud, Kubernetes, and AWS AI/ML services.
The preferred candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, understanding of healthcare & technology, a demonstrated record of leading / guiding / mentoring / managing teams to design and build solutions preferably using AWS cloud platform services. The candidate will have demonstrated consistently strong leadership skills, an ability to work independently and deal well with ambiguity and strong collaboration skills. The candidate will empower a growth mindset and inspire a culture of continual learning. This role will require collaborating with cross-functional teams around the globe, strong communication skills is a must.
+ Thoroughly understand the internal stakeholder’s business priorities and help to architect, develop, and support solutions for various business objectives
+ Coordinate hiring and training for the Analytics Solutions Engineering organization
+ Intake resourcing requests from Delivery Leads and facilitate appropriate project and resource planning
+ Track and report current and forecasted utilization
+ Collaborate with other leads to identify the right activities for the unutilized pool – trainings, white papers, recruitment, delivery excellence etc
+ Collaborate with different leads to plan strategies for augmenting capacity
+ Be accountable for ensuring design and development of solutions with high quality standards, timeliness compliance, and excellent user experience (routinely keep stakeholders updated on progress)
+ Communicate intensively with other divisions to understand new methodologies being implemented or considered within the company ecosystem and bring new ideas forward that will enhance analytic capabilities of the organization
Education Minimum Requirements:
+ A minimum of BS (or equivalent) in Data Science, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, IT, or an equivalent scientific/commercial discipline. Masters/PhD preferred.
Required Experience and Skills:
+ Minimum of 7 plus years of relevant experience in designing solutions making best use of cloud platforms (preferably AWS).
+ Experience leading multiple teams in an agile structure and reporting to senior leadership. Experience doing similar things at a consulting or analytics services organization is a plus.
+ Proficiency formulating business questions based upon client insight requirements.
+ Experience developing solutions that incorporate machine learning and descriptive algorithms/modeling using such languages as Python, R and SAS etc.
+ Experience of code reviews, code versioning, using GIT, etc. , and CI/CD implementation.
+ Experience with data science algorithms such as advanced statistical methods, Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing (NLP) modeling and model evaluation is a plus.
+ Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse groups of work colleagues and positively manage ambiguity.
+ Self-motivation, proactivity, and ability to work independently with minimum direction.
+ Proven knowledge of business processes and industry/market trends within the pharmaceutical/healthcare space.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to communicate appropriately and confidently with colleagues from different backgrounds and seniority levels.
+ Excellent organizational skills, with ability to navigate a complex matrix environment and organize/prioritize work efficiently and effectively.
+ Proven track record of successful completion of multi-stakeholder projects necessitating coordination cross-functionally between several departments.
