Each year, the funding decisions for thousands of research grants are dependent upon the fair and thorough assessment of scientific merit by a panel of expert reviewers. The proper conduct of peer review is the foundation of sound funding decisions. GDIT supports Federal and State clients with the scientific peer review of research grant applications across a broad array of topic areas such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, military health, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, psychological health, lung cancer, orthopedics, etc. We are currently seeking two full-time Lead Scientific Review Officers (Lead SROs) to join our team. The Lead SRO will serve as a working lead for a team of SROs, with primary responsibility for recruiting, training and overseeing the scientific quality of the work SROs do. They will report to the Scientific Resources Senior Manager while serving as a liaison to program management and other functional teams.

This is a fully remote position, with periodic travel to in-person meeting in the Washington DC metropolitan area.


+ New Staff recruitment and training

+ Help recruit PTOC SROs and Biomedical Editors (BEs)

+ Train new SROs and Biomedical Editors

+ Mentor new SROs/BEs or supervise mentoring staff

+ Ongoing training of SRO and Biomedical Editor staff

+ Identify process areas where improvements are needed

+ Develop personalized training and performance improvement plans for SROs not meeting performance requirements

+ Ensure adherence to quality and performance metrics

+ Perform quality control checks during various phases of the peer review cycle to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company policy and established processes.

+ Document deficiencies and develop corrective action plans

+ Monitors performance of staff doing scientific quality control in all the peer review phases

+ Periodically throughout the year and as needed, serve as Scientific Review Officer, recruiting reviewers, facilitating discussion and writing summary statements for assigned review panels. Will help other SROs recruit Chairs and Reviewers for a variety of programs


+ MD and/or PhD Degree Required

+ At least 5 years of experience as a Scientific Review Officer

+ Outstanding written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by the preparation of high-quality Summary Statements and peer review meeting facilitation performance

+ Experience with Scientific Peer Review Quality Control processes highly preferred

+ Supervisory experience and training experience desired
