Functions as a technical specialist focusing on odor assessment and control projects. With minimal supervision, applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for solution development, effectively communicates efforts in writing and verbally, and develops/implements field sampling programs to characterize odors and odorants in air and wastewater. Has experience with odor control for collection system applications and wastewater/solids treatment processes.
+ Applies knowledge of industry standard practices for development of odor control design criteria, including pollutant loads, exhaust rates and performance requirements
+ Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables with a focus on odor control assessments
+ Helps develop, coordinate and perform field sampling programs
+ Performs complex research and develops recommendations for odor mitigation
+ Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
+ Documents efforts in well-written technical memoranda and reports
+ Summarizes efforts in presentation materials, as needed
+ Ensures high quality deliverables and compliance with Black & Veatch quality program
+ Manages assigned scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements
+ Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects
+ Provides technical guidance to design engineers to support project transition from planning to design
+ Experience with liquid phase and vapor phase treatment for odor mitigation
+ Experience with odor control assessments for collection system applications, including identification of chemical injection strategies and development of exhaust rates for sewer system vapor phase treatment systems
+ Understanding of the impacts of wastewater/solids treatment processes and/or operations on odor generation and the development of mitigation approaches to address process odors
+ Experience coordinating and conducting airstream and wastewater characterization efforts for collection and wastewater treatment plant applications
+ Understanding of dispersion modeling principles, ability to provide suitable data for modeling and interpretation of modeling results
+ General knowledge of engineering design principles for odor control systems to support design team
+ Demonstrated strong writing skills and effective verbal communications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the United States or in active pursuit* of such registration. Responsible for ensuring registration remains active during employment.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Flexible working arrangements available, including work from home opportunities. Site visits to wastewater collection systems, operating wastewater/solids treatment facilities and construction sites expected. Compliance to Black & Veatch safety programs and protocols required.
