Summary:
Under general supervision, implements, directs, coordinates and provides technical assistance to staff in the performance of the registration duties for inpatient, outpatient and emergency room registrations.
Other information:
Four years’ experience previous registration/admitting and/or Business Office experience. Previous experience in proprietary healthcare software Experience in a lead role providing technical assistance to staff, preferred. Working knowledge of healthcare billing and/or registration. Ability to communicate with public in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to assist with direct patient contact including placement of arm bands on patient wrist/ankles, assists variable aged/weighted wheelchair patients to destinations, able to quickly assess and utilize universal precautions to include but not limited to; injuries, illnesses, clinician contact/notification, etc. Sensitive to difficult/emotional patient situations to include life threatening illness or injuries, loss of limb or life. Ability to recognize cultural diversity and special needs, remains calm and able to perform duties in a emergency environment to include but not limited to: traumatic injuries, active bleeding, loss of bodily fluids, offensive smells, death, disaster/mass casualty, etc. Strong personal computer skills preferred
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates ability to plan and organize work flow to maximize productivity while maintaining quality, safety and customer satisfaction. Assists in the development of PDCA systems to implement and monitor process improvements and take action where appropriate. Ensures team members maintain departmental policies/procedures, and adhere to all quality, safety, and regulatory standards/requirements. Supports department by monitoring regulatory/accreditation compliance. Takes actions to address deficiencies as appropriate. Trains new and current team members and students. Ensures that orientation and training checklists are completed. Makes sure that annual mandatory education is completed, and competencies are assessed and documented. Provides feedback to leadership about team members' performance, including need for coaching, counseling, disciplinary action. Assists leadership in completing initial and annual performance appraisals. Recommends/Assists with the preparation of departmental training and education, quality and safety programs and performance improvement projects. Acts as resource person for daily operations within the department, section or unit. Very knowledgeable about the specific aspects/technical details of the job, and readily share knowledge with others. Participates in the interview process and provides feedback on candidates. Provides day to day coordination of staffs work assignments, tasks, helps as needed in registrations, admitting in order to keep productivity within Patient Access ED/Admitting area. Takes on call for procedure system and equipment management. Identifies systems and operational problems, analyzes current processes, and recommends solutions and improvements. Actively participates in the interviewing, training and orientation, and performance management of ED/Admitting staff. Assists the Patient Access - ED/Admitting Coordinator in the development of quality assurance standards and performs periodic audits of registrations. Documents findings and uses data collection as an educational tool to improve staff performance. Assists Patient Access - ED/Admitting Coordinator in identifying areas for staff development and develops and implements a plan to meet these needs. Assures staff compliance to quality in customer service and complete and accurate registrations. Provides support in the development of training manuals and tools. Assures compliance with hospital established policies to include National Certification, Quality Assurance programs, Safety, Security, Environmental and Infection Control policies & procedures. Provide account analysis and changes as necessary to ensure proper admitting/bed placement status for billing as requested by ED, PFS, Medical Records and others as needed. Fosters good public relations for the department and the Medical Center. Maintains a positive attitude and professional image. Performs all registration functions applicable to their position such as pre-registration, registration, upgrading accounts and admitting to meet department and organizational requirements. Is able to cover registration and admitting. Performs other duties as assigned.
