Motor Equipment Operator I - Water/Wastewater Public Works The City of Dover Public Works Department is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Motor Equipment Operator (skilled labor) in the Water/Wastewater Division. The essential function of this position within the organization is to assist the Water/Wastewater crew in the installation, repair, operation and maintenance of all water and wastewater facilities within the City through the operation of specialized motor equipment, hand and power tools. These tasks include the installation and repair of water mains and services, the installation and repair of sewer lines and laterals, performing regular water system flushing and the utilization of a jetter/vacuum truck to clean and maintain sewer lines. The Water/Wastewater Division is a diverse section of the Public Works Department and also offers future opportunities to assist in pump station maintenance and video inspections. The successful candidate will work under a varying degree of supervision which will call for an ability to contribute to the decision-making process. The candidate will be required to work on a 24-7 rotating on-call schedule, as well as night shifts twice a year. Each night shift will be for approximately two (2) to three (3) week. All Motor Equipment Operator I's will inspect motor equipment daily and perform minor maintenance; complete job-related logs and forms and assist in providing information to the public. The ability to perform medium to heavy work lifting 75 pounds on an occasional basis is required. This position is exposed to the elements to include extreme heat and cold as well as all types of inclement weather. Will operate specialized motor equipment to support City operations during inclement weather events. For example, snow events.
