Entity and activity description

The GM&T WBU delivers technological solutions (molecules, equipment and services) to support the new markets of energy transition, maritime logistics and scientific exploration, in order to accelerate Air Liquide sustainable growth.

To support the energy transition, GM&T brings environmentally friendly solutions to the clean energy market with hydrogen energy and Bio-Natural Gas for vehicles, refrigerated transport using nitrogen, but also the treatment and injection of Biogas into the energy grid as a local power source.

As a player of the deep tech sector, GM&T commercializes technologies dedicated to Space, Aerospace and scientific exploration. GM&T also supplies gases for players in of the maritime sector and provides logistics for cryogenic transportation by sea of value added molecules, such as helium.

GM&T employs 1,800 people world-wide and generated a 2017 revenue of €372 million.

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for the Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) organization and for leading, supervising and benchmarking the technological evolution of GM&T Americas (GMTA) in a constantly changing business environment. Responsible for defining and executing the technology roadmaps for GMTA and new membrane product development in close coordination with the Manufacturing and R&D teams.

Defines a vision for sustainable global business growth with differentiated technologies or offers across multiple product lines, and executes that vision through efficient and effective management of the ATS organization. The CTO builds long-term bonds with customers and is consulted by the Air Liquide Group in development of offers and technologies. The CTO is the central point of contact at GMTA for Group or third parties with questions on technology issues.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

+ Demonstrate leadership in process and operational safety at all times and serve as a safety role model for others, including project personnel, visitors, contractors

+ Identify and understand technology trends relevant for our industry and transform those into opportunities to improve and enlarge our offer

+ Define needs for and scope of GMTA Technology Roadmaps as well as actively participate and provide guidance for the IDD driven Biogas Technology Roadmap and the Membrane technology Roadmap

+ Support our customer-centric ambition with a focus on the energy transition and CCUS

+ Support to strengthen our relationships with strategic customers through technological differentiation and innovation partnerships

+ Manage the GMTA Intellectual Property portfolio

+ Oversee innovation projects and new product development sponsored by GMTA businesses

+ Be a key technical resource for membrane manufacturing technology and manufacturing technical/operational issues – a primary technology resource for Sr. Director of Membrane Manufacturing

+ Ensure proper internal transfer of his/her unique competence throughout the ATS organization to protect AL’s long term competitive advantage

+ Ensure that R&D projects are aligned with the innovation ambitions of GMTA’s business

+ Scout strategic partners (eg. start-ups) & academic institutions

+ Serve as the primary technical interface between Group R&D and E&C in GMTA related technical activities

+ Supports people development and a strong Technology Career Ladder community within GMTA

+ Manage an organization of engineers and scientists focused on new product development, solving applied membrane engineering issues, and troubleshooting manufacturing technology problems

Qualifications

Required

+ Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Science from an accredited 4-year university. Advanced degree preferred

+ 10+ years of demonstrated success in a senior Technology Management role with a concentration on direct and executive experience

+ Excellent communication skills – can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

+ Strong organizational skills to find and retain key technologists and engineers and organize teams to accomplish business goals

+ Business and/or financial acumen

Preferred

+ Membrane gas separation technology knowledge/experience

+ Commercial or business management experience
