The JMT MEP Facilities Group work assignments typically center around facilities engineering and design projects of varying sizes within the aviation, public works, water/wastewater, transportation, transit, and educational markets.
JMT is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer specializing in HVAC, Industrial Systems, Plumbing, and Fire Protection to be a part of our growing Facilities Engineering practice in the Newark, DE office. The Designer will work closely with engineering staff from the initial conceptual mechanical design to construction and commissioning of large and small facilities type projects.
The Mechanical Designer will have the opportunity to work with a diverse and experienced staff in resolving a variety of complex project requirements with the benefit of an ISO 9001 quality control process. The ideal candidate is an experienced designer with interest and aptitude to fill a combined design and commissioning role. JMT is seeking candidates with a wide range of design and commissioning experience in the educational, commercial, industrial, transportation, aviation, and public works industries. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard techniques, procedures and criteria, to prepare drawings using computer-aided drafting software.
Uses judgment and modifications in making basic engineering computations and revises specifications for adaptions and modifications.
Makes quality control corrections to contract drawings
Responsible for updating CAD files per client drafting standards.
Prepares exhibits for reports, public meetings or presentations

Required Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum 5 years of experience related to a combination of building HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, central plant design, commissioning, facilities construction administration, and other associated industries.
Proficient in use of Autodesk products, including AutoCAD and REVIT software along with computing production tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, BlueBeam.
Experience with collaboration software (e.g. SharePoint, MS Teams, Outlook, etc.).
Experience in resolving a variety of complex project issues, (i.e., challenging design requirements, requirements for unconventional materials, difficult coordination requirements, etc.) both in design and construction as part of a project team.
Experience performing design calculations (e.g. duct and pipe sizing, pressure loss calculations, plumbing fixture units, etc.), review project contract documents, code reviews, field survey activities, and construction administration
Ability to support on site commissioning survey and testing activities (e.g. installation validation, equipment start-up witnessing, Testing and Balancing review, etc.) for active construction projects in conjunction with the Commissioning Authority.
Ability to support the development of field commissioning documentation including checklists and prescriptive test forms.
Preferred Experience
Experience with commercial, industrial, and institutional clients and markets is a plus
Familiarity with cross-discipline design software integration a plus (e.g. MicroStation, Civil3D, etc.) a plus.
Experience with industrial systems and lubrication fluid storage and distribution is a plus.
Working knowledge of load and energy modeling and simulation software is a plus.
Experience with machine design and/or moveable structure design a plus.
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 85% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
