DuPont Electronics and Industrial (E&I) is seeking to fill the position of Synthetic Polymer Lead Process Chemist. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary process chemistry and engineering team in the Emerging Technologies organization aimed at the scale-up and commercialization of product candidates from the E&I division. In this position a qualified candidate will provide expertise for polymer synthesis development in a team environment of organic synthetic and material scale-up chemists and engineers.

Job Description

+ Polymer Development & Scale-up

+ Develop robust polymerization and purification protocols for electronic materials. Optimize individual process steps to deliver electronic material quality specifications that can be achieved at commercial scale.

+ Deliver technology packages that enable successful transfer of processes to integrated operations or third party tollers. Characterize process variables and define boundary conditions as part of basic data generation.

+ Lab and Equipment Operations

+ Ability to work in a team environment

+ Meet business demands for materials supply

+ Occasional extended shifts and flexible work hours required

+ Safety

+ Proven safety track record with commitment to ZERO incidents/injuries

+ Experience working with hazardous chemicals

+ Proven track record of meeting project goals on aggressive timelines

Technical Experience

+ Demonstrated hands-on experience in polymer synthesis techniques and purification

+ Synthesis Techniques Include:

+ Step-Growth polymerizations

+ Chain-Growth polymerizations:

+ Free radical, RAFT, ROMP, Ionic etc.

+ Purification Experience Includes: Crystallizations/Precipitations

+ Liquid transfers/Media Column application

+ Product Filtrations

+ Distillation/Extractions

+ Familiarity with a variety of analytical techniques is desirable

+ Viscometry




+ Process chemistry experience is a plus


+ PhD Chemistry, Materials Science, or relevant Engineering discipline

+ =3-7 years of industrial polymer synthesis experience

+ Excellent organization and communication skills (written and verbal)

+ Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously

+ Willingness to work hands-on in a lab or pilot area > 50% time

+ Electronic polymers synthesis experience a plus

+ Project leadership experience a plus
