Basic Function of the Job:
Design and conduct experimentation, development, prototyping, and new manufacturing methods. Develop and continuously improve manufacturing processes to manufacture ceramic composite products. Develop experimental plans using statistical methods and experimental schedules. Conduct multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize based on business needs. Participate in materials formulation development, thermal schedule development. Operate high temperature processing, machining, and characterization equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot processing, machining, and characterization equipment. Coordinate external toll characterization activities with vendors. Keep excellent records of work (travelers, spread sheets, lab notebooks, other), follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety procedures. Prepare Technical Notes, Reports, and Presentations. Keep up-to-date with the technical literature related to advanced ceramics and composites. Support R&D to manufacturing product and process transfer. Participate in Lean, Six-sigma, Kaizen, FMEA, 6S, and yield enhancement activities. For design focused engineer, conduct computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM) activities, design and machine fixtures, tooling, test sample, program machining centers, and operate machining centers.
+ BS in Engineering, or technical AAS with 10+ years relevant experience, 5+ years of foundry experience
+ Knowledge of advanced ceramics, metals, and composites
+ Hands-on experience with materials manufacturing, foundry practice, furnace operation, microscopy, and/or materials testing
+ Experience with problem analysis and resolution
+ Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others
+ Ability to recommend and implement improvements
+ Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, Email, MRP systems, and accounting software)
+ Formulate experimental plan and schedule
+ Write technical notes, reports, presentations based on experimental results
+ Project management
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
+ Desired technical skills set includes: materials formulation, powder processing, furnace operation and programming, use of machining equipment, materials property testing.
+ Ability to react quickly to changing requirements and new processing developments
+ Keen interest in quickly learning and applying new skills.
+ Understanding of SDS documentation, and ability to use new materials nd chemicals in a safe manner.
+ Ability to handle multiple priorities involving external and internal priorities
+ Ability to excel in a cross-organizational, cross cultural, global team environment
+ Handle special assignments promptly and professionally
+ Set a high standard of ethics, professionalism, leadership, and competency
+ Ability to travel within and outside the U.S. with possible travel up to 10% of the time.
