At BMC, the Lumber Estimator is valued as one of the first people to interact with the building process, creating a smooth start for their team. They use technology and mathematical skill to prepare an estimation of the amount of materials needed for the construction of a home in accordance with Company Policies. They regularly visit sites and work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver optimized results. The Lumber Estimator accurately determines products needed for a project using his/her knowledge of construction including but not limited to:

Major Responsibilities:.

+ Computing material take-offs and estimates

+ Utilizing Sapphire (will train as needed)

+ Determining the scope of work and defining the contractual requirements for the project

+ Assisting clients to identify and solve construction problems from blueprints and/or jobsite visits

+ Answering incoming calls and assisting with inside sales responsibilities

+ Overseeing projects from beginning to completion

+ Personally providing customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service at all times

+ Other duties as assigned by location management.

Required Skills

+ Minimum Education: Technical Degree in engineering or related area.

+ Ability to read blueprints and other technical materials.

+ Ability to interpret building plans in diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

+ Ability to operate networked computer systems and specialized software application programs and to instruct others in effective use of application software.

+ Must have excellent oral communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.

+ Basic mathematical skills (ability to use Excel for computing measurements).

Required Experience

+ Minimum Experience: 2 or more years of construction and building materials related experience.
