Associate Actuary (Student Health)

The Associate Actuary completes the most diverse and complicated projects and performs highly complex actuarial studies.

In this role you will be the actuarial pricing lead for the student business segment as part of the Large Group Financial Strategy team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, being the actuarial subject matter expert for student health, developing student specific rating assumptions, assisting teams with student rate filings, analyzing and explaining financial results for the student segment, providing strategic guidance and direction to the student business team, and being the primary point of contact for student underwriting and sales teams. You will also have the opportunity to attend client meetings to discuss actuarial assumptions. This is a great opportunity to work closely with members of the business unit to drive strategy for this new growth segment. Candidates with a background in student health business and strong communications skills are preferred but the position is open to any talented associate.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

+ Performs key actuarial functions including new product pricing, evaluation of the impact of new legislation, flexible benefit consulting, and special projects.

+ Designs and completes special projects such as developing and maintaining experience-rating formulae and creating and/or reviewing alternative settlement formulate and risk sharing models.

+ Responsible for recommendations on pricing, marketing, product design, claims, premium and enrollment administration of business unit.

+ Responsible for valuation support for business unit by interpreting financial results, variances from forecast to help identify product and segment behavior to assist in the risk management of the business unit.


+ Requires a BS/BA degree; ASA required from the Society of Actuaries (SOA); at least 4 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (e.g. MS Word; MS Excel; MS Outlook; MS PowerPoint) required.

+ Health insurance experience highly desired.

+ Health insurance pricing experience highly desired.

+ Large group pricing experience preferred.

+ Student health experience desired.
