Context of the Job:
The Department of Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) within the College of Education and Human Development is an interdisciplinary department with undergraduate and graduate programs that require a close working relationship with the State of Delaware, Federal Agencies, local school systems, and numerous Health and Service agencies. The Department houses the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities (NLCDD), a partnership of seventeen national developmental disabilities organizations. The goal of the National Leadership Consortium is to assure the quality and commitment of the next generation of leaders for government and nonprofit organizations serving people with developmental disabilities. The Consortium is dedicated to building a corps of quality leaders and to the promotion of sound, values-based leadership practices.The Consortium offers intensive week-long leadership institutes, short-term learning opportunities relevant to nonprofit leadership and management, mentoring programs, both undergraduate- and graduate-level campus-based programs, and a resource-rich website and is in the process of going live with a community of practice, all aimed at improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families.Under general direction of the Program Manager of The National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities, the person in this position will have responsibility to assure effective delivery of Leadership Institute training and programs, by assessing and being responsive to the needs of the training participants and speakers. The person in this position will assist with marketing and plan and oversee all aspects of organizing and implementing trainings and up to ten week-long Leadership Institutes annually. Institutes will be held both on campus and across the United States and internationally. The incumbent will assist program participants with travel and lodging arrangements as needed. The incumbent will work directly with the Program Manager and the CEHD Financial Services Unit to assure accurate and timely reporting of financial information and adherence to relevant UD policies and procedures. This position is a full-time contract and grant-funded position.
Works very autonomously to plan and carry-out all functions required for week-long leadership institutes including marketing, program planning, design and coordination of online registration system, speaker relations, communication with participants and space planning for up to ten intensive week-long leadership institutes annually to be held on the University of Delaware Campus, across the United States, and internationally and ongoing out-of-state leadership development program. Responsible for decisions requiring significant independent judgment and discretion in facilitating all aspects of planning and implementation of up to ten leadership institutes in the US and internationally. Plan for, purchase and assure the availability of all training materials and supplies. Gather, organize and distribute printed and electronic versions of handouts and PowerPoints. Along with the Program Manager, support and train two or more student employees to carry out aspects of the program including review and preparation of invoices; coordination of registration; site preparation; materials coordination; coordinating travel and accommodations for faculty, staff and participants; and space planning. Aid in the development and planning of additional trainings for stakeholders nationally and internationally, across the disabilities network including emerging leaders, state department staff, support staff, families and self-advocates. Provides technical assistance for NLCDD partners and faculty to develop and facilitate successful trainings. Works with NLCDD Program Manager to design and develop Leadership Institute schedule, sessions and speakers based on the assessed learning needs of varying audiences and leadership groups. Reviews evaluation of each Leadership Institute to coordinate, modify and adapt planning and dissemination to best meet the needs of individual leadership groups. Works closely with the CEHD Business office to track all expenses. Identifies appropriate hotel and meeting space for each event and works with the Program Manager to negotiate contracts for hotel rooms, meeting space and food and beverage events. Develops, administers and evaluates marketing plan and materials for the Institutes by coordinating with all partner and host agencies to seek and receive marketing lists. Develops, implements and evaluates social media strategies to effectively sustain leader engagement and deliver educational and developmental content. Updates the NLCDD website as needed and provides development and oversight of the Online Community of Practice. Collects information for and disseminates NLCDD newsletter; aid in preparation of the annual report. Coordinate marketing, registration and maintain/update a master list of participants. Edits and keep up-to-date written planning and development resources and a guidebook for students and staff working with NLCDD and partnering agencies to plan and facilitate effective Leadership Institutes. Maintain a calendar of all future training and marketing events and schedule new ones accordingly. Researches and identifies online tools for dissemination of materials during and subsequent to each institute. For programs provided in other states or internationally: Assembles a steering committee of representatives, identifies current trends and knowledge needs within the state or region, compiles recommendations and assists in revising the schedule, sessions and speakers for each Institute. Assist with researching and scheduling training locations and making arrangements with representatives for onsite needs, audio visual needs and meals/breaks. Researches software, recommends tools and develops and maintains a membership database that tracks the history of job changes and promotions. Serves as primary contact and liaison between participants, speakers, faculty, partners, sponsors and NLCDD. Has ability to make decisions, solve problems and modify programming based on the needs/concerns of stakeholders. Performs other job-related duties as assigned
High School diploma or GED, Associates degree preferred, and five years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work independently and use judgment and discretion to make decisions. Experience with event planning. Experience managing groups and staff. Ability to analyze and interpret data. Effective written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in computerized information systems, including relational databases, online registration systems, meeting and presentation software. Effective organizational skills to handle several projects simultaneously, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and carry out multiple tasks and activities. Ability to make independent decisions and judgments. Ability to interact well with a wide range of people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Ability to exercise tact and discretion. Strong attention to detail. Experience developing budgets related to event planning logistics. Knowledge of and interest in policies and future directions in the disabilities field. Knowledge of and interest in leadership development and practice. Proficiency with University financial systems preferred.
Ability to travel overnight regularly, usually seven to ten days each month. Ability to move supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
