Inspects buildings and sites for compliance with building, zoning, housing and property maintenance codes and ordinances. Performs a variety of technical duties in support of the Town’s building inspection program as related to land use matters, building, housing, health and safety, and property maintenance. Does related work as required. •Inspects structures and sites for compliance with Town Ordinances •Investigates violations and initiates procedures to abate violations •Issues notices of violation, citations, and other correspondence specifying necessary corrective actions for compliance and compliance dates •Provides other staff support to Building and Inspections Manager as assigned •Attends Council Meetings and committee meetings as set by the Town Manager •Enforces and administers building, plumbing, zoning, health and other codes as set by Mayor & Council •Maintains records III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES •Ability to think and write in an organized manner •Ability to establish an effective working relationship with Councilmembers, Commissioners, Contractors, Property Owners, Representatives from other agencies and the public •Possesses a thorough knowledge of methods and materials used in building, mechanical, plumbing, and improvement construction •Ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions •Ability to enforce ordinances, codes, and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially •Ability to read plans and specifications •Ability to complete organized working drawings for Town projects and code-related needs •Ability to project a professional, helpful image to create a sense of confidence in the public •Ability to interact with the public and other Town employees in a pleasant, courteous, helpful manner in order to foster an effective, efficient, professional workplace. •Additional experience in construction or enforcement of building codes and ordinances may be substituted for a college education.
