Job Description

ChristianaCare is searching for an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant to join our inpatient Neurology practice. This is a full-time position that will require every 3rd weekend and two holidays per year.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assess health status of patient through a detailed history and physical examination.

Design individualized management plans in collaboration with physicians, staff nurses, and other health care professionals for various patho-physiologic states common to the neurological patient.

Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to neurological patient including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information, to identify patient needs and to provide care as needed.

Manage care of the neurologically compromised patient within mutually agreed upon protocols, including emergency resuscitation, prescribing appropriate treatment measures and initiation of a continuing treatment regime for health maintenance.

Ensure Joint Commission and CCHS stroke measures are being met via appropriate care and documentation.

Complete medical record documentation timely including discharge summaries.

Prescribe orders appropriately and within scope of practice.

Acts as liaison for patients, families, and health professionals.

Provides formal and informal in-services in which in depth knowledge base is shared with staff.

Maintain required credentials and seek educational opportunities to increase knowledge base.

Coordinates select projects/programs, as assigned.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.

Performs other related duties as required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Licensure or license eligible for Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nursing as set forth by the Delaware Board of Nursing or Licensure as a Physician Assistant by the Delaware Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline; and Ongoing certification by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Certification by the appropriate national organization specific to area of specialty

Prescriptive authority

Certified in BLS, ACLS and NIHSS
