High School/GED

Under the direction of the Sterile Processing shift leader, the Sterile Processing Technician II assists in carrying out the responsibilities for the overall work flow of the shift. Technicians are accountable for all assigned activities which include, but not limited to: quality and accuracy of instrument decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and case cart assembly. The Sterile Processing Technician II will be responsible for the overall coordination of surgical specialty teams, and the instrumentation and equipment processed for that specialty.

Minimum Education and Experience:




High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Working knowledge of Instrumentation Terminology

Working knowledge of all Sterile Processing instrumentation, equipment and supplies.

Prior Operating Room or Sterile Processing experience.


2 years of Sterile Processing experience

4 years of related experience (Sterile processing and/or Operating Room).

Computer/Software Knowledge:

Basic Computer Literacy

Sterile processing department instrument tracking system.

Certifications or Licensure:

Current CRCST certification through IACHSMM (preferred) or CSPDT certification through CBSPD.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

· Can assess, identify, and respond to urgent/emergent requests for instruments, supplies, and equipment in an efficient and effective manner.

· Have knowledge of, and able to stay compliant with applicable infection control, health, safety, and other policies and procedures implemented by the department and facility.

· Able to operate fairly complex machines and equipment in the department.

· Able to acquire thorough knowledge of aseptic technique principles and apply such principles when carrying various duties throughout the department.

· Able to differentiate between steam and Sterrad/VPro (low temperature sterilization) supplies.

· Able to work positively and effectively in a team. Maintain flexibility.

· Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English

· Must be able to communicate proficiently using verbal, auditory, and visual skills

· Requires attention to detail skill set

· Working knowledge of medical technology.
