Join the award-winning FMC R&D community to provide solutions to high throughput screenings. We are looking for an experienced Sr. Associate Scientist to join FMC Global R&D. This position requires the use of robotics and automated systems, which are used to screen a large number of compounds for biological activity for crop protection. In this position, the successful candidate will support the daily operations of the screening facility as well as design innovative solutions for new processes. The work is a combination of office and lab work. This position is located at Stine Research Center, Newark, DE.

Responsibilities listed include but are not limited to the following

+ Screening and sample storage and retrieval systems – provide support to day to day operation and troubleshooting, maintaining spare parts, assisting vendor with advanced troubleshooting and repair

+ Lab automation equipment – provide day to day operation and troubleshooting, basic repair and preventive maintenance, maintaining spare parts

+ Discovery screening operations – design and program new screening tests and methods including data management and improve existing processes

+ B.S., computer science, biology or related field with 5 plus years of experience or M.S. with 3 – 5 year experience

+ Experience in working safely in the laboratory and office

+ Computer programming skills such as Visual Basic, .NET

+ Familiarity with lab automation (Tecan, Perkin Elmer) analytical balances, barcode technology etc.

+ Experience in High Throughput Screening is a plus

+ Basic mechanical skills a plus as some of the troubleshooting and upkeep of the instruments requires the use of small hand tools.

+ Experience working with chemical samples

+ Experience working as a team player and with a large and diverse group of co-workers.

+ Desire to help create and design new applications to support the Discovery effort of FMC

+ Experience in learning and developing.

+ Experience in delivering quality results in a dynamic work environment

+ Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate

+ Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems.
