Due to continued growth, our Electric Grid Infrastruture Services Group currently has a new opportunity for an Entry-level Transmission Line Engineer in its Wilmington, Delaware office.
This entry-level position will offer the opportunity to utilize and expand academic background in statics, strength of materials, structural analysis, geotechnical design, and electrical engineering. Transmission line design is performed in a specific 3-D modeling software called PLS-CADD, which is a sophisticated software that is utilized to locate and analyze transmission line structures, model conductor loads and evaluate clearances, and various other design aspects. Additionally, learning about conductors, hardware, insulators, structures, foundations and electrical principles will be necessary in order to:
+ Design transmission lines in the 69kV to 500kV range.
+ Perform analysis and design of monopole, lattice tower, frames, and guyed structures.
+ Perform foundation designs included drilled piers, direct embedded structures, vibratory caissons, and other alternate foundation types.
+ Perform conductor selection studies, shielding, grounding, and induction studies.
+ Develop cost estimates and schedules and prepare specifications for the procurement of transmission line materials and construction.
+ Specify transmission line components.
+ Model transmission lines in PLS-CADD, determine right of way requirements, calculate conductor sags, and develop transmission line plan and profile drawings.
+ Review vendor submittals.

Essential skills and experience:
+ This position requires an engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
+ Knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles including basic statics and strength of materials.
+ Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
+ Excellent spatial visualization and an aptitude for interpreting 3-D models.
+ Proficiency with MS Office applications.
+ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Excellent problem solving skills
Valued but not required skills and experience:
+ Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) or Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE)
+ Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
+ Related engineering, internship or co-op work experience.
+ Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training (EIT).
+ Proficiency with any of the following programs: PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, SAG10, LPILE, MFAD, ArcGIS, CDEGS, AutoCAD, Microstation, Global Mapper, Civil 3-D.
+ Experience in technical writing and providing support documentation for engineering calculations.
+ Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
