The Senior Director, U.S. Value Strategy & Evidence (VSE), is a vital position within the U.S. Market Access team who is accountable for driving all strategic and operational aspects of a team of healthcare professionals developing innovative values strategies for AZ products in therapeutic areas (TAs) across the BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit. In this role, the Sr. Director will work closely with cross-functional internal stakeholders across Payer Evidence, Payer Medical, HEOR, Brand Access Strategy, Legal & Compliance, U.S. Medical Affairs, Contracting Strategy, Corporate & Government Affairs, Global Medical, and Pricing Strategy to ensure that business processes, resources, and staff are optimally-positioned and aligned to enable the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of evidence-based frameworks related to innovative reimbursement and payment models at key payers within the U.S. business (i.e., Innovative Value Strategies (IVS)). The Sr. Director will manage direct reports working on VSE solutions at a TA/Brand level within the Business Unit. They must be able to provide strong, detailed guidance to direct reports for optimizing VSE construction and performance within their Core Value Team (CVT) setting(s), as well as effective technical and strategic direction in leveraging broad-based clinical and health economic evidence to produce industry-leading Value-based Agreements (e.g., Outcomes-based Contracts) and Value-based Pricing Models. More specifically, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:
+ BU Resource Alignment & Asset Utilization: Ensure that all VSE staff and essential internal stakeholders are equipped for success with appropriate levels of ongoing support (e.g., program funding), that resources are deployed efficiently and with clear accountability, and that internal experts and hard assets (e.g., VBA technology, data platforms, statistical software) related to RWD analytics/RWE evidence planning for VSE are readily accessible to key staff
+ Operational Efficiency Across Functions: Works directly with leadership across key functions in the U.S. and Globally to enable efficient ways of working across the enterprise, and to ensure that existing and future SOPs, etc. related to RWD/E (and other evidence planning) for VSE purposes are suited to successfully meet the needs of a rapidly-changing payer environment
+ External Landscape Monitoring & Stakeholder Engagement: Responsible for working closely with Corporate & Government Affairs to stay current with VSE payer trends and legislative actions which impact and opportunities and pose threats for VSE implementation, must also be able to contribute in written and oral forms to policy-shaping efforts within a matrixed environment of internal and external experts
+ VSE Implementation (Payer Analytics Coordination & Outcomes Reporting): Develops and builds strong C-suite level relationships with key payer accounts (in collaboration with FHODs and other Market Access account colleagues) specifically as it relates to fostering VSE opportunities
+ Team Development & VSE Technical Training/Content Expertise: Responsible to ensure that all IVS direct reports maintain a robust development plan in line with VSE goals and company aspirations for the future, and that all teammates receive technical training (where needed) in HEOR/RWE, actuarial/financial modeling, and clinical science to enable best performance in developing VSE solutions that are based on best available evidence
The Sr. Director (in coordination with their Directors, VSE) will be the VSE content expert for Brands within their Business Unit, and they will be the champion for all BU VSE areas to ensure that tangible, compelling payer offerings are aligned to market expectations, that they satisfy all AZ legal & compliance requirements, and that the team’s deliverables reflect the necessary innovation and creativity to be best-in-class in meeting the challenges of a rapidly evolving U.S. payer landscape. They will shape the internal environment and drive endorsement for all necessary VSE innovations across Brand, Medical, Legal, and Compliance colleagues. They will proactively engage Market Access/account team leadership to identify targeted opportunities for VSE engagement in high priority areas.
The Sr. Director will have technical training and/or demonstrated experience/knowledge of applying HEOR/RWE output for purposes of delivering strategic market access solutions (payer-facing experience is required). Experience in directly or indirectly leading teams which have developed Payer Value Propositions and/or applied HEOR/RWE evidence for strategic market access purposes is also required, as is the capability to contribute to market-shaping activities and external engagements with quality/value framework/clinical pathway/policy organizations. A working knowledge/understanding of actuarial analysis and in-depth financial modeling/forecasting is a plus. Direct payer experience is important, with the ability to provide tactical data and analytics solutions for VSE deliverables. The Senior Director will be the primary contact for reporting VSE results/outcomes to AZ leaders

+ Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with Sr. Leadership, as well as peers and direct reports, and to quickly and appropriately resolve operational challenges among staff
Education & Training:
Bachelors degree in a scientific and/or business area is required.
Masters-level training is highly preferred, specifically in a field related to Finance or HEOR/Biostatistics/Epidemiology/Health Services Research (e.g., MBA, MPH).
An earned doctorate (PhD, DrPH, MD, PharmD) is strongly desired.
