This program is aimed to help participants renew their:

+ Experience through on-the-job learning of investing

+ Exposure through networking and mentoring opportunities

+ Education through specific skill-based training, modelling, and financial analysis

Candidates should have experience in the fields of operations, accounting and/or administration with a particular focus on alternative investment funds.

Whether this pilot returnship leads to a full-time career, or serves to sharpen the skills necessary to take the next step, it will be a valuable experience for participants to build their career portfolio.

Please note that while we hope to be able to offer the best performers opportunities to stay on full-time at BlackRock, participation in the pilot returnship does not guarantee a permanent position.


Within Alternatives Operations, the Alternative Investment Services (AIS) team supports the investment & client onboarding, trade lifecycle, cash management, client reporting, and other recurring & ad-hoc functions for a wide range of alternative investments across all private asset classes and throughout the capital structure.


+ Foster a relationship with back-office support professionals at hedge funds as well as their administrators, including frequent communications regarding trading

+ Interact with NAV Oversight, Client Servicing / Reporting, and Portfolio Management teams as needed to address investor queries and investment-level funding issues

+ Support the onboarding of new alternative investor mandates, investments, and vehicles, including informing & implementing processes for investment/trade lifecycle management, cash management, reporting, and reconciliation

+ Provide trade support and execution functions for private investment funds, including monitoring internal and external teams to ensure accurate and timely execution

+ Work with portfolio management teams to facilitate cash management, capital activity, and investment funding processes

+ Liaise with external service providers, internal team members and other BlackRock groups to resolve operational issues, as identified

+ Identify opportunities for technological innovation and enhancements to processes

+ Identify risk areas and implement/improve risk-mitigating controls

+ Assist with preparation and review of reporting deliverables and ensure deadlines are met

+ Ensure the team’s process documentation and controls are updated and reviewed regularly


+ VP-equivalent or higher prior to work break; or 7+ years relevant experience

+ 2+ year voluntary career break

+ A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred as is a proficiency in Excel

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment

+ Highly organized and able to adapt to variable deadlines

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

+ Outstanding work ethic required along with demonstrated success in high performance or high demand environments

+ Initiative and a willingness to contribute beyond the scope of one’s role to achieve team and firm objectives
