Job Description


In addition to the following, employees are responsible for understanding the relevance and importance of the individual’s activities in contributing to food safety, and reporting situations that may impact food. Operates equipment, which forms, fills wraps, and/or seals a variety of packaging materials with product, in a manner insuring maximum operating efficiency and conformity to specified standards of quality control.



Checks with supervisor as to shift production schedule; checks stock of packaging materials and related supplies on hand and notifies package material serviceman or supervisor of any needs to meet shift production schedule.

Starts up, operates, changes over, cleans bins and/or shuts down any packaging machinery, conveyors, and/or other related equipment in assigned area, in accordance with standard procedures; makes necessary corrective adjustments to weight controls, heat sealers, paper tension, print alignment, air pressure, glue application and/or equipment speed where required, to maintain the specified degree of quality and efficiency.

Supplies and replaces packaging materials to assigned equipment; replaces various equipment parts including, but not limited to, Teflon liners and suction cups; and forms knockdown containers.

Inspects at specific intervals containers for proper fill, seal, and print alignment; check weighs filled containers in the prescribed manner; and uses leak tester equipment, as required, in accordance with established procedures.

Records on designated forms results of sample testing; submits properly identified samples to Quality Control; sets aside prescribed number of containers of product from each batch for quality control inspection; and submits to supervisor reports on assigned equipment down-time, heat seal, case counter reading, and weights of samples taken.

Coordinates activities of employees on line by advising them of line starts and stops, equipment failures, etc., to assure the necessary level of line efficiency.

Relieves jams and/or plug-ups in/on assigned equipment in the prescribed manner; notifies mechanic or supervisor of equipment malfunctions as required; assists mechanic or supervisor with certain equipment adjustments where necessary.

Test runs product before actual start-up, by performing all operations, to insure proper functioning of equipment.

Communicate with supervisor and/or designated personnel as to product changeover and any other information necessary to insure the specified degree and efficiency.

Maintains a clean and orderly staging area; places trash and/or waste products in proper carts or containers and moves to designated area; disposes of any damaged packaging materials in the prescribed manner.

Changes code dates where required.

Zeros weigh scales, as required, in the prescribed manner.

Palletizes and depalletizes packaging materials, finished product, and/or other supplies, and prepares pallet tickets as required.

Recognizes and reports to supervisor any unusual condition or defective equipment.

Maintains a clean and orderly work area to insure the specified degree of cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Observes all safety rules, precautions, and practices to insure the safety of self and others.

Trains additional personnel in this operation as required.

Performs all other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.



Complies with all government regulations pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety, etc.

Attends start of shift QCD meetings and discuss suggestion and safety issues when appropriate.

Complies with all company rules, policies, procedures, and programs.

Assists in supporting the company’s preventative maintenance program.

Maintains company standards for housekeeping in everyday work routine.

Must have completed or must complete Battery Changing, Stacker and Stand Up Truck Training.

Plant GMP/PPE Compliance. Must be able to communicate with Warehouse Service Operators to order Raw Materials to complete frame-ups.

Must be able to communicate needed information to peers, support personnel and Supervisors to assure successful operation.

Accountable for the QRMP (Quality Risk Management Process) standards as outlined in the plant’s QRMP accountability document, including the implementation, improvement and ongoing maintenance.


Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Able to read and perform basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

Must be able to know and demonstrate tasks and duties in Department

General knowledge to qualitatively, and efficiently operate all process Equipment as mentioned above, to include Troubleshooting.

Utilizing proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment.

The physical skills to successfully meet prescribed work efforts as determined by the Ergonomic Job Analysis for the Job.

Be already or become Forklift Qualified to successfully and safely operate a forklift and walkie pallet lift to meet Production Requirements.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Expected to have a thorough understanding of the Operation for all equipment in all departments so that they can lead troubleshooting efforts to minimize downtime and make improvements to equipment as necessary.

Must be available to work overtime as needed to meet company needs

Available to work all shifts including weekends


Standing, Walking, periodically ascending and descending stairs and ladders, and occasionally lifting.

Continual attention to all equipment while in operation.

Working with and around moving equipment; possible cuts from equipment knives and burns from heating units; slippery floors in some areas.

Dusty in some areas.


The personal protective equipment described here are representative of those an employee must/might use to successfully perform the functions of this job safely.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to wear company authorized safety shoes; regularly required to use company authorized hearing protection. The employee is frequently required to wear company-authorized safety glasses; frequently required to wear gloves. The employee is occasionally required to use a respirator. Hairnets and beard nets are required.
