POSITION: The University of Delaware invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the broad area of Medical & Molecular Sciences. The candidate should be an outstanding and energetic scholar with an interdisciplinary outlook who is committed to understanding the molecular basis of health and human diseases. It is expected that the faculty member will maintain a strong track record of high-quality principal author publications in peer reviewed journals. The individual with NIH R01 funding or demonstrated potential for receiving such funding, a strong commitment to research as well as teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels are encouraged to apply. The anticipated start date of this position is February 1, 2020.

MEDICAL & MOLECULAR SCIENCES DEPARTMENT AT UD: The Department of Medical and Molecular Sciences at the University of Delaware (https://sites.udel.edu/mms/) is undergoing significant growth and expansion within the College of Health Sciences. The Department currently has several researchers in the areas of molecular biology, infectious disease, protein structure & function, translational genomics, RNA biology and proteomics. Faculty in these areas have long-standing collaborations with colleagues throughout the university as well as other institutions nationwide. The ideal candidate will have the interest and ability to collaborate and complement ongoing research in the Department/College/University. A commitment to mentoring junior scholars and students in their research and teaching, particularly those underrepresented in science, is shared among Medical & Molecular Sciences faculty.

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking an exceptional candidate in broad areas of Medical & Molecular Sciences with a PhD in chemistry, biology or related discipline with postdoctoral experience and documented evidence of high-quality research productivity. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of scholarship and have secured external funding for their research or have a strong potential to do so. Expertise or interest in STEM teaching/learning is a plus. Responsibilities will include pursuing a rigorous and innovative line of research and supervising doctoral and post-doctoral students. In addition, the candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in an area of relevance for the department delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats. The successful candidate also will participate in intramural and extramural professional activities, public outreach and university service.

UNIVERSITY AND THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES: The College of Health Sciences is ranked in the top 1%, nationally, among the best places to study the health professions by College Factual, the College of Health Sciences is a thriving academic unit of over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 150 faculty with outstanding research and teaching facilities. The College also includes the departments of Behavioral Health and Nutrition, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Epidemiology, Physical Therapy, and Nursing. With annual research expenditures of approximately $26 million, the college currently houses a number of large, interdisciplinary grants with significant funding from the NIH and DoD.
