+ By 2021, the Commercial Learning Innovation Centre (CLIC) will be a recognized, innovative, sought after learning organization, both inside and outside of AstraZeneca that is at the heart of building a world class commercial organization and creating a culture of lifelong learning.

+ The Director of Commercial Leadership Excellence will play a key role in the CLIC leadership team in bringing the above ambition to reality.

+ The Director has accountability for the leadership of the function responsible for creating and building the tools and experiences that enhance the coaching acumen, sales skills, health care ecosystem, and patient perspective of the Commercial sales organization in the US. The Director must balance the immediate demand with future-facing activity that will ensure the US business has the right capabilities to meet the changing demands of the AZ strategy and value focus on putting the patient first.

+ The key focus for the role:

+ Development of direct reports and others in CLIC organization

+ Help embed a learning and coaching culture in the US commercial organization

+ Maintain/evolve and when needed create sales leadership experiences for different layers in US commercial business.

+ Work across sales, marketing and other functions to develop a coaching culture that will deliver the right capabilities at the right time to the business and its customers. In addition, the leader in this role will be accountable for delivering and assessing the coaching acumen development plan for leaders across all levels of the organization.

+ A critical success factor for this role is the ability to collaborate with subject matter experts (both internal & external) on the development of all learning initiatives. The areas of patient centricity, digital design and data analysis, health care ecosystem, and learning and development will be a focus in every experience that CLIC delivers.

+ Ability to work in a matrix environment. Collaborate with everyone. Be part of the performance discussions with key stakeholders

+ Creates a culture of delivering solutions that are designed in collaboration with stakeholders, delivers performance and is world class in standard.

+ Has a relentless drive and ability to align actions with learning journeys, and can understand and evaluate the potential impact of external events on the organizational/learning strategies.

+ Inspires ownership, accountability, initiative, and engagement within the entire team by regularly communicating AZ’s ambition, business objectives, performance outcomes, and future action steps.

+ Develops people and the organization by investing in long-term development of others through mentoring, coaching, and continuous feedback.

+ Creates a climate of trust so team members can act decisively by clarifying roles/responsibilities and establishing boundaries of decision-making.

+ Strong competencies in strategic thinking, project management, and communication by collaborating with customers including brand teams, senior sales leaders, sales executives in the field to help shape customer perceptions of training at AZ .

+ Accurately acknowledges both the broad environmental context of situations and the needs/motivations of others (i.e., excellent insight into how to get things done and they know who they need to influence and why).

+ Has the ability to identify issues and opportunities before others, and uses robust analytical rigor to frame situations and incorporate new perspectives and ideas.

+ Anticipates and/or removes obstacles for others to that teams/workgroups can deliver results and succeed.

+ Establishes business objectives, assesses performance, and addresses skill development for direct reports to ensure appropriate portfolio management, including opportunities for career development.

+ Ability to lead and influence learning specialists and associate directors through modeling and coaching to AZ’s leadership capabilities

+ Hold final accountability for all content and learning experiences

+ Manage development of metrics to monitor training curriculum effectiveness, adjusting plans as appropriate to deliver improved performance

+ Helps influence the vision for the department aligned with business/brand strategy, inspiring the US organization to build commercial capabilities that can deliver against the AZ USLT vision/strategy.

Skills and Competencies:

+ Ability to exploit present conditions by optimizing current business model’s operations while exploring opportunities to redefine that business model by taking pioneering risks.

+ Excellent communication skills and comfortable at presenting ideas in large groups as well as one-on-one sessions

+ Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor individuals on selling skills, product information, and leadership capabilities

+ Strong collaboration and networking skills in order to effectively influence peers and decision making.

+ History of developing skills in account planning and management, including goal setting and resource allocation

+ Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to establish credibility with key stakeholders

+ Ability to lead in a fast paced environment, manage multiple priorities, adapt, and promote change

+ Demonstrated strategic and analytical thinking skills

+ Previous job experience establishing and meeting deadlines, identifying and mitigating risks

Requirements:

+ Bachelor’s degree, with minimum of 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical sales or health care role, including at least 5 years of leading teams, both sales professionals and managers

+ Previous experience leading sales or training teams in the pharmaceutical or related industry

+ Other experience in marketing, MAPS or operations preferred

+ Formal experience in learning and development, curriculum design, and delivery in live and virtual setting preferred

+ Other operational, global, or marketing experience preferred

+ Demonstrated leadership, writing, communication, project and vendor management skills

+ Ability to use and learn multiple technologies for facilitating training and learning

+ Travel may be required on a frequent basis
