Job Description

160 temp fulltime farmworker openings. Sunstate Harvesters Inc, Sussex County . 7/20/2019 – 9/15/2019. To harvest watermelon by hand, the worker will walk down the watermelon field rows where the watermelon with a small knife and turn the watermelon over. The worker will bend over harvesting the ripe watermelon which can vary in weight from 20lbs to 75lbs from the ground and tossing the watermelon to the worker next to him and this worker will toss the watermelon to the next worker and so on, until the watermelon is then tossed to the person inside the bus who will place the watermelon on the floor. Packing: When the bus is full, it will be taken to the packing house where the workers will unload the watermelon and put it in a conveyer belt that will transport the watermelon into the packing house where it will be separated by size, labeled and packed. The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside for at least 7 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat the picking process rapidly, one month experience in this type of work is required, the employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. The employer will charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the worker’s refusal or negligent to return the tools or due to such worker’s willful damage or destruction of the tools. 1 mth of experience. $13.15/hr. 36 hrs/wk. 7:00am – 2:00pm.
Employer will provide housing to those who are not reasonably able to return to their residence within the same day, housing, without charge to the worker, which meets applicable local, state, and federal housing standards. Also will provide transportation once per week to go to a store to buy food and other necessaries.
Employer will provide three meals per day at a cost to the workers of $12.46 per day. The employer will guarantee a minimum of 36 hours work during the week ($12.46 × 36 hours= $448.56) beginning with the anticipated day of need, unless crop is delayed, in this case the employer will notify the order holding office within 10 working days prior to the first work day. The jobs associated with this employment are paid by piece rate, however, $12.46 per hour is guaranteed as a minimum for all hours worked during a pay period. the employer will agree to pay the highest of the AEWR, the prevailing hourly wage or piece rate, the agreed upon collective bargaining wage, or the Federal or State minimum wage.
For workers hired from beyond normal commuting distance, after completion of 50 percent of the work contract period, the employer shall reimburse the worker for cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence, as required by dol regulations, from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer to the place of employment. The inbound transportation will be reimbursed on the basis of no less (and is not required to be more than) the most economical and reasonable charges for the distance involved. The daily subsistence, while travel will be no less than $12.46 per day, workers providing receipts will be reimbursed up to the amount authorized by the Continental United States per diem rate of $55.00 as computed by the GSA method. Payments will be made based upon the date of publication of the H2A program allowance meal charges in the fed register. If the worker completes the work contract period, the employer will provide or pay for the worker’s transportation and daily subsistence from the place of employment to the place from which the worker, disregarding intervening employment, came to work for the employer, or, if the worker has contracted with a subsequent employer who has not agreed in that contract to provide or pay for the workers transportation and daily subsistence expenses; except that, if the worker has contracted for employment with a subsequent employer who , in the contract has agreed to pay for the workers transp. and daily subsist. expenses from the employers work site to such subsequent employers work site, the employer is not required to provide or pay for such expenses.
Housing provided at no cost to workers and those workers in corresponding employment who are unable to return to their place of residence the same day.
Tools, equipment and supplies provided at no cost to worker, for work day only, stored and maintained at farm.
Employer guarantee 3/4 workdays of contract. Work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions, hot, cold and possible rain, hours may fluctuate (+/-); possible downtimes and/or extended hours. The payroll period is weekly. Workers are paid on Friday by check. Employer will offer 36 hours per week. The worker may be offered more than the stated hours per day, depending on weather and other conditions. The employer will make all deductions from worker’s paycheck required by law. The workers are covered by Workers Compensation. . Employer will comply with first week wage guarantee;
Return transportation and subsistence is paid upon completion of 100% of the work contract. The employer may terminate the work contract where services are no longer required for reasons beyond the employer’s control due to fire, weather, or other Act of God. The 3/4th guarantee will be provided between the start and termination dates, make efforts to transfer the worker to other comparable work acceptable to the worker, and, if transfer is not viable, provide outbound transportation and subsistence.
The employer is to provide workers with a copy of the work contract, including any approved modifications, on the day work commences or as soon as practically possible.
