JMT is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer specializing in HVAC, Building Automation System, Plumbing and Fire Protection evaluation, engineering and design to be a part of our growing Facilities Engineering practice in the Newark, DE office. The Design Engineer will be provided the opportunity to be directly involved from the initial conceptual mechanical design to completion for large and small facilities type projects across a wide range of industries including transportation, aviation, transit and public works. Work opportunities will be a mix between office based engineering and design plus field based commissioning and construction administration. The ideal candidate is an experienced design engineer ready for new challenges and opportunities to advance within a growing organization servicing several high demand and growing markets.

Primary Responsibilities

+ Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate mechanical engineering work including coordination of the project with Local, City, State, and County codes and officials

+ Work with a staff of technically qualified designers and engineers

+ Resolve a variety of complex issues, (i.e., challenging design requirements, requirements for unconventional materials, difficult coordination requirements, etc.)

+ Serve as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams

+ Performing engineering calculations

+ Review project contract documents, energy simulation, ventilation and heat load calculations

+ Code reviews

+ Field survey activities

+ Construction administration and commissioning

Required Skills

+ Commissioning certification and experience is a plus

+ Working knowledge of Auto CADD, REVIT, Microstation and building energy/load simulation programs along with computing production tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is a plus

+ Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

+ Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced cooperative team environment spanning across multiple offices

+ Desire to participate and excel with a broad range of project types, roles, customers and tasks

Required Experience

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited program

+ Minimum 2 years of related working experience post completion of ABET Accredited degree program

+ EIT or PE is preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 80% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 30 lbs) may be required as needed.
