Job Description

The shift lead/utility reports to the production supervisor. You are responsible for the daily execution of the scheduled plan including, but not limited to: Supervision of operators, relieving breaks, light material handling, starting and stopping molding machines, answering alarms, and utility work such as supplying boxes, bags, and labels to press operators.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Maintains a high level of professionalism
• Responsible executing daily planned schedule
• Coordinate operator training activities with Operator Trainer
• Fills in for Operator Trainer when necessary
• Review work orders and IQMS entries to ensure completion and correctness
• Implement and maintain 5S standards
• Ensure all required equipment and materials are at machine at job set up (grinders, tables, fixtures, auxiliary setup equipment, conveyors, fans, aerosols, regrind use, etc.), and removed upon job completion-Line clearance
• Monitors quality of product per quality standards
• Responsible for maintaining established productivity levels
• Responsible for communicating issues regarding quality, scrap rate, safety, or any other concerns to supervisor or manager
• Participates actively in continuous improvement
• Responsible for communicating to shift leads and supervisors at shift change regarding operation, quality, and job status
• Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work area
• Responsible for relieving breaks
• Responsible for ensuring material is supplied to machines
• Responsible for answering alarms on presses and start/shut-down procedure
• Performs other tasks as directed by lead or supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Responsible for directing work for shift operators and reporting deficiencies to supervisor for correction


• 20/20 vision or corrected vision
• Ability to read and comprehend work instructions and quality plans
• Manual dexterity and coordination

Education and/or Experience:

• High School Diploma preferred

Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
• Ability to perform basic applications of percentages and averages

Reasoning Ability:

• Ability to recognize non-compliance to work standards and contact appropriate supervision or management staff

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Lean training preferred

Physical Demands:

• Extended hours standing and repetitive tasks
• Standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and moving up to 300 pound barrels occasionally (assisted)

Work Environment:

• Manufacturing environment with associated noises, smells, and temperatures
