This position leads and manages a retail sales and operations team comprised of approximately 15-18 branches and 100-150 branch sales people for a specific region. The position is responsible for all area activity, operating, financial results (including growing regional retail consumer profitability) and strategic direction.
Responsible for leading a major geographic region of the retail branch network to include all operations, financial results, and strategic direction.
Build and enhance Branch Manager team through developmental plans and consistent coaching, training and feedback.
Work with a Bank-wide team of Regional and Area Sales Managers to set strategic direction for the Retail Bank focusing on employee commitment, strategies for customer growth and retention and increasing sales levels of all Bank products.
Develop ability of Branch Managers to coach/develop their branch personnel, lead the sales process and execute small business banking sales activities.
Support key business partners (i.e., M&T Investment Group, Business Banking, Cash Management, M&T Mortgage Corp) to facilitate successful branch partnerships and achieve shared sales goals.
Participate in Bank-wide strategic planning committees by representing the entire branch network. Provide committee updates to the senior retail management team as direction and Bank-wide change is developed.
Serve as active member in the local community and represent the Bank at various community functions.
Assist in maximizing the efficiency of the retail distribution network. Participate in implementation and management of branch sales incentive program.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Scope of Responsibilities:
This position has strategic responsibility for both short and long term objectives and is responsible for managing a significant segment of the retail branch’s business.
The position is typically responsible for 100-150 employees comprising of 15 – 18 branches.
Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for over 100 employees.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ sales experience OR in lieu of a degree, a combined 11 years’ higher education and work experience, including a minimum of 7 years’ sales experience.
Minimum of 4 years’ proven sales management experience.
Demonstrated sales/business development experience and success.
Strong financial services product knowledge.
Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent software packages.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated, well-organized individual.
Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain business partner relationships within and outside organization.
Ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management and peers).
Education and Experience Preferred:
Minimum of 7 years’ retail branch sales experience.
Minimum of 4 years’ proven retail branch sales management experience.
Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s policies, products and services.
