Fall Analytical Sciences Co-op (Job Number: LIM00001061)


The DuPont Corporate Center for Analytical Sciences (CCAS) is seeking laboratory Co-ops to perform chemical and polymer characterization work or materials science characterization work in support of R&D and problem solving for DuPont businesses. Under the guidance of scientific staff, the Co-op will conduct analytical science experiments, interpret analytical results and suggest experiments or alternative approaches to develop technical business solutions. The Co-op will recognize erroneous or unexpected results, make suggestions based on their analysis and conclusions and contribute to formulating work plans. Commonly used scientific tools including chromatography, mass spectrometry, NMR, ICP, light scattering, thermal methods, rheometric methods and microscopy, diffraction, spectroscopy, and surface science instrumentation will be used to characterize the structure, chemical composition, morphology and behavior of a range of materials.

The work requires a strong curiosity in physical sciences, innovative problem solving, strong communication skills, attention to details, and the ability to multitask.

The responsibilities of this position include:

+ Laboratory operations, including safely and efficiently learning & carrying out standard measurements using commercially available instruments.

+ Involvement in R&D projects, where the Co-op student participates with a mentor to define a reasonable project role & objectives and leads the efforts to accomplish the objectives.

+ Collaboration with co-workers to provide effective solutions to R&D projects and DuPont business problems.


+ Successful completion of at least 2 years working towards a BS degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Engineering or a closely related science/engineering discipline

+ Strong applied computing skills, including data manipulation & statistical analysis applications; ability to master data-acquisition software packages

+ Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams with CCAS

+ Good organizational and interpersonal skills, including self-management and the discipline to safely accomplish assigned work in a timely fashion

+ The means to reliably report to work full-time (40 hours/week) in Wilmington DE, especially during the core workday from 9 AM – 3-PM. Flexible scheduling is negotiable.

+ Strong scientific curiosity and innovative problem solving

+ Ability and enthusiasm to learn new skills and tasks quickly

+ Attention to detail.

+ Ability to multitask
