What you’ll be doing…
Our network system assurance team keeps our highly reliable network operating at optimum levels for our customers. You’ll be operating, administering, maintaining, and evolving our highly complex core network to support our customers’ increasing data needs. You’ll play a key role in evolving our network through virtualization and software defined networks to support our goal of reducing capital and operational expenses. Responsible for the installation, operation & maintenance of complex data networks, ensuring network integrity & quality at Verizon Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs)/Data Centers. These networks include but are not limited to: LTE elements, routers, multilayer switches, & Ethernet backhaul. Responsible for troubleshooting, upgrading, administering these platforms & multiple vendor systems; maintaining system, element & platform applications; & providing support to a varied user community; updating daily logs with site-specific information, and composing clear & concise reports for system documentation. Coordination with internal teams and vendor support during planned or unexpected network events. Examples but not limited to Data Service Organization, National Network Organization, Data Performance, Verizon Business/Transport and externally Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Samsung vendor support teams.
Equipment that this position is responsible for includes but is not limited to:
- Services Aggregation Point equipment both virtual & physical such as PGW, SGW, MME.
- Data Center Operations.- Verizon Cloud Platform Application Configuration & Support.
- Routers & switches; Nokia, Juniper, Cisco.- IPv4/IPv6 Subnet Management.- Voicemail platforms.- Transport for Ethernet Backhaul in both lit/dark fiber environment.- AC/DC Power Plant Equipment.- HVAC.- Generators.- Expected to perform work with minimum supervision & participate in cross-functional projects, as scheduled.
- Expected to perform on-call rotation as part of the network team.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll need to have:
+ Bachelor’s degree or four years of experience.
+ Three or more years of related experience.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of data networking protocols including TCP/IUP, OSI, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, BFD, SIP and other LAN/WAN protocols, is required.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of data transmission facilities such as 1G, 10G, 100G & native Ethernet & SONET, is required.
Even better if you have:
+ Intermediate training in at least 3 of the following areas: SDN/NFV, data networking & communications, wireless technologies, digital communications, operating systems & applications, telecommunications and/or power distribution.
+ Military experience, relevant special electronics training.
+ Certifications such as Red Hat, Openstack, CCENT, CCNA or CCNP, are preferred.
