The Scientist I is in the Polymer Chromatography Lab within the Global Technology R&D Analytical group. The Polymer Chromatography lab provides polymer characterization utilizing various separation and detection techniques in support of research, regulatory and business efforts. The responsibilities of the position would include routine SEC analyses, development of analytical methods and the general day-to-day operation of the laboratory. Responsibilities would also include ionic and other functional group characterization to provide a fundamental understanding of charged aqueous dispersions, raw materials, and formulated surfactant systems used in the paper making and water treatment industries. Subsequent analytical results would need to be effectively interpreted and communicated to Global Technology customers as well as regulatory and business units.

+ Requires a BS or BA in chemistry with 3 years of relevant experience.

+ Relevant experience would be in an analytical laboratory with a familiarity working with HPLC systems as they pertain to Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) and/or other polymer fractionation techniques (FFF, LAC…) Experience with chromatography data systems (e.g., Empower, OpenLab…) and LIMS systems is a must. Familiarity with other chromatography techniques such as GC, GC/MS, LC/MS and/or thermal characterization techniques such as TGA and DSC would be a definite plus. Good verbal and written communication skills is a must. The successful candidate must also be able to work within a collaborative team environment.

+ Required skills in chromatography to include HPLC. This would include proficiency in maintenance and troubleshooting of the hardware, as well as proficiency with data acquisition software. Fundamental understanding of measurement science as it relates to chromatographic systems toward quantitative and qualitative analysis is a must.
