FMC Corporation is a leading specialty company focused on agricultural technologies. FMC provides innovative and cost-effective solutions to enhance crop yield and quality by controlling a broad spectrum of insects, weeds and disease, as well as in non-agricultural markets for pest control.

FMC is a globally diverse organization that offers its employees exciting opportunities to work on challenging projects that are important to the achievement of our strategic objectives. Your education and professional experience are valued and put to use from day one. Your success at completing key initiatives can result in a varied, progressive and fulfilling career with FMC.

With a corporate culture of innovation, integrity, responsibility and customer intimacy, we foster “The Right Chemistry” in everything we do. We are looking for people to join us in creating, developing, and improving our products, our processes, and our markets. If you are ready to make a difference every day, FMC is ready to talk to you.

FMC Discovery has an immediate opening for enthusiastic, creative and talented synthetic organic chemists to join the Discovery Process Chemistry (DPC) group at Stine Research Center in Newark, DE. The DPC group facilitates research in the discovery stages of our pipeline by providing innovative solutions to complex chemistry problems. The position is responsible for devising, validating and optimizing scalable synthetic routes as well as carrying out synthesis campaigns to support our discovery efforts. DPC chemists also work closely with Process Development to facilitate the transition of lead compounds from discovery to early development.

We are seeking Ph.D. level chemists with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry research. Candidates must demonstrate an expert understanding of modern synthetic methodologies, organic reaction mechanisms and current laboratory techniques and be able to apply this knowledge toward the synthesis of complex small molecules. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, but also collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, including discovery chemists, process chemists and biologists.

Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related discipline is required, and further post-doctoral or industrial work experience is desirable.

+ Strong knowledge of traditional and modern synthetic organic methodologies, modern chromatography techniques and spectroscopic methods for the synthesis of complex small molecules is required.

+ Ability to design and carry out multi-step synthetic sequences on multi-gram scales safely.

+ Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively and work in teams of scientists.

+ The ability to effectively develop and test hypotheses and quickly determine the feasibility of a proposal is critical.
