Global Supply Chain – Business Owner -Business Process Owner – Risk Management and Business Continuity is responsible for the management and “ownership” of the Risk Assessment, and Business Continuity Planning in GSC&S providing strategic, and operational leadership regarding the definition, design, and ongoing improvement work for delivering a standardized and executable process to for risk assessment and risk management.

This role is recognized for deep knowledge of Risk Management techniques and organization application. They will be responsible for working across GSC&S, Finance and Compliance to ensure robust risk assessment processes are in place and adhered to.

The GSC&S BPO will lead the definition, design and ongoing improvement work in GSC&S to ensure that existing and future business requirements are met within the global process framework and in collaboration with other process owners. The GSC&S BPO will constantly drive for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the process based on objective KPIs while maintaining appropriate control and integration with other process areas

The GSC&S BPO will be supported through a risk network across GSC&S and together will shape and continually improve risk management and Business Continuity Planning across GSC&S. As BPO, the successful candidate will have accountability for defining and maintaining the Global Business Continuity Policy and ensuring adherence to the policy across the enterprise. This role will work closely with the head of Global Strategy and the GSC&S Leadership Team to ensure risks have been identified, and for reporting the Operations Risk profile on a regular basis to the GSC&S LT.

Given the large scope, low level of process maturity, and need for rapid progress to support key Ops 2020 initiatives and to manage the significant uplift required in the Risk Management process in GSC&S, this will be a full time senior role reporting into the Head, Global Supply Chain Strategy.

The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of Risk Assessment Management and Business Continuity Planning and how to use these to leverage improvements across a Global Supply Chain enterprise that enables risk to become a part of everyday conversations and Operations decisions.

The individual has knowledge of risk application within a broad context (eg Manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, other industries etc) and how this contributes to achieving the objectives of the overall business. The individual will also be expected to be a thought leader, engaging in new ideas and solutions that allow AstraZeneca to proactively identify future risks and how to monitor risk on a real time basis.

The GSC&S BPO will be accountable to:

+ Actively participate in the design and own the implementation of global standards and procedures for risk management in GSC&S, ensuring proper alignment integration across all groups

+ Responsible for establishing and leading the Business Continuity Policy. This includes ensuring compliance to the policy, and leading the assessment of Commodities and components risks across the top product franchises.

+ Lead the implementation of the Risk management and BCP uplift change program in GSC&S

+ The BPO will lead the process governance in GSC&S to drive process maturity and continuous improvement.

+ Drive adherence to the global standards.

+ Participate in defining global KPIs; monitor and improve performance within GSC&S.

+ Drive standardization and simplification across GSC&S.

+ Manage continuous improvement and change. Create a process and culture of continuous improvement across the Risk Assessment process in GSC&S.

+ Ensures proper communication and training of the Risk Management process, provide advice and coaching to all stakeholders and the process community, in GSC&S.

+ Monitor internal and external signals and trends to continuously improve how risk is managed and ensure the process will support delivery of GSC&S strategy.

+ Keeps self and others up to date on recent developments and emerging trends on an internal and external basis.

+ Working with the Head, Global Supply Chain Strategy, manage relationships with key stakeholders, including maintaining strong links and communications across GSC&S.



+ Bachelor’s Degree required.

+ Business, Supply Chain, Engineering and Science degree preferred.


+ Demonstrated experience in Operations or Supply Chain.

+ Extensive experience of risk leadership in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry at a senior level.

+ Broad understanding of risk management from leading the area within Pharma or other Life Sciences industries.

+ Understanding of the link with Business Continuity Planning and how risk interfaces with key business processes.

+ Strong operations experience

+ Influencing skills

+ Ability to work in a global organization


+ Relevant successful experience of the management and visibility of risk across large corporate organizations.

+ Excellent understanding of business process management principles and their application, with experience from other functions, SET areas, or external, global process work.

+ Understand, interpret and communicate how emerging risk trends may impact AZ Operations management of risk.

+ Understand the developments in risk assessment internally and externally and the changes in the pharmaceutical environment and assess their impact on Operations to lead improvements and developments.

+ Lean experience and preferable experience of Business Process Management.

+ Demonstrated experience of leading projects/change programs in a global and cross functional set
