Stine Research Center is looking for an experienced safety leader who has a strong track record of delivering high quality safety strategies and programs that prevent incidents and ensure safety standards, policies and practices are adhered to by the site occupants and visitors. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and direct site safety programs and procedures to meet or exceed Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) standards and requirements in support of R&D Laboratory and Site Operations. In the role, he/she is expected to provide leadership, strategic guidance, technical expertise, and support on EHS matters at the Site, maintain effective communications with R&D and Site Management as well as Corporate EHS to ensure EHS is protecting employee health and the environment, while effectively supporting business needs. He/She is expected to guide as well as implement continuous improvement of EHS that advance FMC’s core values, e.g., safety, ethics, sustainability, integrity, respect for people.

+ Develop and implement work processes and programs focused on prevention of injuries

+ Promote an aligned and harmonized EHS culture across the site

+ Develop and implement effective EHS training programs

+ Provide direct oversight to the site EHS resources and work with site leaders to further develop site EHS resources

+ Ensure Site is in compliance with FMC EHS standards and procedures and audit site execution to drive continuous improvement.

+ Ensure Site remains compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements, including federal and state environmental and occupational health requirements and OSHA mandates for employee, contractor, and construction safety.

+ Resolve complex compliance matters using data and management systems

+ Lead risk and hazard assessments of tasks and capital projects and ensure implementation of identified mitigation measures

+ Effectively lead incident investigations ensuring proper classification and driving implementation of corrective actions using root cause analysis process

+ Coordinate applicable Process Safety Management processes at the site ensuring appropriate reviews are conducted, documented and communicated

+ Analyze EHS data for trends and identify appropriate actions to prevent incidents

+ Develop EHS resources to partner in improving EHS culture across the region

+ Monitor corporate EHS and site EHS audit processes – ensuring all audits are completed, properly documented, and followed-up

+ Oversee site Responsible Care Management Systems – supporting internal audits and driving compliance plans

+ Assist sites with compliance reports and permits

+ Deliver a Monthly Safety Report which communicates EHS performance and EHS program messaging throughout

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or environmental science or equivalent years of directly related experience.

+ 5+ years of experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety leadership role

+ Demonstrated leadership skills in anticipating and executing EHS strategies and programs

+ Knowledge of environmental regulations preferred (e.g., air, water, waste)

+ Track record of effective communication (both orally and in written) to all levels of the organization

+ Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations

+ Demonstrated ability to mentor professionals and technicians as required to improve functional capability

+ Experience working with production process functions and driving EHS within a site and or R&D lab environment

+ Experience in EHS incident classification, investigation methodologies, and root cause analysis

+ Experience in developing and conducting training for all levels of the organization

+ Experience in effectively managing conflict through constructive feedback

+ Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and delegate multiple tasks for self and others in alignment with business needs

+ Experience in providing leading edge safety programs that anticipate and promote continuous improvement in EHS to drive a positive safety culture.

+ Experience in supporting new ideas and concepts by communicating and promoting them to management

+ Some travel may be required (estimated at 10%)
