Join FMC’s world-class research & development organization in transforming the agricultural industry for crop protection products as the Global Development Biology Director. We are seeking a self-motivated, experienced leader and scientist who will be accountable for the formulating and implementing a comprehensive strategy that merges existing Global Development Biology work and Agricultural trends to advance new assets to commercialization as well as for product support, renewal and stewardship of FMC products through asset lifecycle.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the successful candidate will lead a team of scientists that design, conduct and report on studies to characterize technical attributes of new technologies, as well as support commercial activities for existing commercial products and technologies. These programs conduct laboratory, greenhouse and field development studies that support work on Fungicides, Herbicides, Insecticides, Nematicides, Plant Health and Application Technology, as well as network with regional PS&R laboratories globally to achieve FMC’s business goals safely.

In addition, the Global Development Biology Director will provide oversight to the Global Product Technical Managers assisting in the identification and implementation of product technical strategy and key decision points, and manage risk and expectations to meet short and long-term objectives successfully.

In this position, the leader has responsibility to work with a regional network of key stakeholders (e.g., Regional Field Development Directors, Global Marketing team, Sales and Discovery teams) when developing the Global Development Biology strategy and establishing priorities to ensure appropriate communication across the organization.

PhD in biological or agricultural disciplines

+ Minimum of 10 years’ of technical experience on product(s) or research and development management

+ Minimum of 10 years’ demonstrated leadership experience managing, mentoring and developing a high performing team at various stages of product discovery and development.

+ Expert knowledge of agricultural product research from laboratory and greenhouse to field development and commercialization

+ Expert knowledge of agricultural product field development and commercialization processes in key global markets such as Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe and North America. Track record of scientific achievement in an area of applied agricultural biology

+ Experience in scientific leadership , influencing through others and taking the initiative to deliver high quality results safely

+ Experience working with sales and marketing organizations

+ Experience in creating and fostering an environment that engenders teamwork and innovation

+ Experience in driving accountability in an organization

+ Experience in fostering knowledge sharing/transfer for a diverse group

+ Long term view with ability to create and drive elements of change, when appropriate

+ Strong track record of individual and team-level contributions in the development of innovative research solutions for Agricultural products

+ Recognized expertise in one or more areas of biology development

+ Demonstrated project leadership experience across multiple disciplines to define strategy and make critical decisions.

+ Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills with a proven record in managing and coordinating research activities.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in working well with other members of the research and management teams in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.

+ Strong problem solver who is highly motivated and organized with the ability to thrive, inspire and to lead in an environment with rapidly changing priorities.
