Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, the Vice President of Internal Communications will build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and audiences to develop and enhance communications across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy, Vision and Leadership

+ Develop and execute our internal communications strategy to inform, align and galvanize our teams in all locations

+ Identify challenges and issues faced by the organization and work with the senior vice president of corporate communications, leadership team and staff to develop communications solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them

+ Serve as a communications counselor to our leadership

+ Ensure efficiency of communications practices through developing structure and identifying appropriate vehicles for different audiences and initiatives

Operations

+ Maintain a consistent voice for all internal and leadership communications

+ Guide activities of the internal communications function including budgeting, planning, and staff development

+ Manage communications activities that promote, enhance and protect our internal brand and reputation

+ Partner with business leaders to prepare strategic communications plans, executive communications and documents needed for internal announcements

+ Track and measure results to ensure compliance with communications objectives

+ Serve as liaison between internal communications and other key business functions

+ Oversee relationships with external communications partners and vendors

+ Collaborate with other teams to ensure appropriate communications tools and methods are available and used

Team Development/Management

+ Manage an internal communications team to support the development and execution of communications strategy

+ Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and quality

+ Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis

+ Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

+ Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or a related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred

+ Must be an excellent writer and editor

+ 25-35% travel (domestic)

+ Minimum eight years of experience in a senior communications management role-in house or agency

+ Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic communications to advance an organization’s mission and goals

+ Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers

+ Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialists

+ Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive

+ Able to motivate and collaborate across functions and divisions

+ Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills

+ Confidence to gain the credibility and respect of senior leaders
